Mt. Springs Saloon Historic Timeline

Dates and events have been gathered by past and present Mt. Springs residents.

The validity of the timeline and events are written from their best recollection.

(1938-40) – Paul Warner served in both the State Legislature and the County Commissioners office. He trades his Northern NV. property for the summit parcel. Two gentlemen known by Warner as Buster and Tweed were of Indian descent. They built a shack, which, still stands today east of the bar, next to the driveway.

(Although it has stucco on it now and a more modern roof)

The water was the thing that made this summit the perfect place for making moonshine. The shack was used for keeping product and Buster & Tweed out of the summer sun and the cold of the winter. It also housed a diesel generator.

(Late 40’s)- Paul and Bernice Warner build the first house in the summit. By the end of WW II, Warner knew that he had to have more than one family living there in order to get power lines pulled and the road paved. He gave an adjacent land parcel to Whitey and Pat Williams (the house in the parking lot) and another to Miriam Wheeler (tucked behind the Williams house).

(1952) –The bar gets built. Warner’s intention in building the bar was simply to give an escape to the casino people, not to mention a place for him and his friends to party without his house getting destroyed. This was a smart man.

(1955)- 3 motel style rooms are constructed where the back poolroom is now.

(1957-58) - The Williams, Albright and Wheeler houses get built. As the story goes, the road was basically in and out of the wash. Each weekend the friends would load up their car trunks with cinder blocks and building materials to slowly construct their homes. The cars were so laden down that when they would get to a steep dip in the wash they actually unloaded the blocks for more ground clearance, drove the cars across and then reloaded them back in the trunk until the next dip, where the process was repeated. This was a hearty motivated bunch.

(1958-1959) Power lines get pulled as the road gets paved to the Nye County line.

(1978) Paul and Bernice Warner donate the land for the Volunteer Fire Station.

(1985) The bar gets an expansion forward toward the parking lot. It’s where the band plays now.

(1997) Bob Kruger and Chopper Jimmy build the front porch
